She is the daughter of the esteemed Musa Musawa, who was a prominent member of the radical leftist First Republic party, the Northern Elements Progressive Union, and its successor in the Second Republic, the Peoples Redemption Party.
During her early years, Hannatu Musawa completed her basic education in her hometown. She later moved to the United Kingdom to further her studies. She earned a degree in Law from the University of Buckingham.
